Susan Nethercote is a painter, researcher, and educator living and working on unceded Wadawurrung Land in Ballarat, Australia.
Her work explores spiritual connection to nature through painting, collage, printmaking, and assemblage — examining the layered artistic, cultural, and familial lineages that shape how we relate to the botanicals, gardens, and landscapes we call home. As a 6th generation Australian descended from settler-colonists, her practice grapples honestly with the tensions between beauty and belonging, between inheritance and its consequences.
Susan is currently completing a Master of Visual Arts by Research at Federation University, where her research centres on a creative dialogue with colonial artist and writer Louisa Anne Meredith (1812–1895) — one of the first women to write and illustrate her experience of the Australian landscape. Her artwork and exegesis together investigate what it means to make art, and make home, on this land in a time of decolonisation.
She shares this journey openly — through her YouTube channel, where she vlogs her life as an artist-researcher, and through online classes and workshops that bring together her skills as a professional artist and her experience navigating the intersection of creative practice and academic research.
Whether you are here to discover her artwork, follow her research, or learn alongside her — welcome.
